An asymmetry of asymmetries

Is the relation between Mexico and the U.S

 symmetric?

No.

The U.S could nuke Mexico if it so chose.

(Of course it won't, but it could.)

Mexico has no corresponding capability with respect to the United States.

Now let us consider Ukraine and Russia.

Russia has the capability to nuke Ukraine.

If Ukraine joined NATO, or otherwise allied with the United States,

one can hardly doubt that the United States would give Ukraine the ability to nuke Russia.

We have seen far too many examples of the U.S. giving Ukraine U.S.-produced weapons to doubt that

The assemetry between the U.S.-Mexico relation and the Russia-Ukraine relation should be clear.

What a shame that so many in politics and the media are demanding such an asymmetry.
